Mandate of Department:
The Public Works Department (PWD) is one of the oldest and most important organization of Govt. of Assam. It was established in the year 1880 under British Rule. At the beginning it had the responsibility for all public infrastructure development involving construction and maintenance works. In 1956 the embankment and drainage (E&D) was bifurcated and established as separate department.The principal function of Public Works Roads Department (PWRD) is to develop and manage the state road infrastructure for providing connectivity and efficient transportation.The Bongaigaon District Territorial Road Division deals with the works of Roads, Bridges, Culverts etc. within the jurisdiction of 32-Bongaigaon LAC, 34-Abhayapuri North LAC and 35-Abhayapuri South LAC.

Bongaigaon District Territorial Road Division : -
Deals with the work of construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, culverts belongs to Rural Roads, Urban Roads, State High Ways, MDRs, ODRs etc. This division deals with the work funded by Central Govt. under Flagship programme like PMGSY and other Central Govt. sponsored schemes like NLCPR, RIDF of NABARD, CRF etc. The jurisdiction of this division are the areas covered by 32-Bongaigaon LAC, 34-Abhayapuri North LAC and 35-Abhayapuri South LAC.
Jurisdiction of the Sub-Divisions are as follows : -
Bongaigaon Territorial Road Sub Division : - Jurisdiction within the area of 32-Bongaigaon LAC.
Abhayapuri North Territorial Road Sub Division : - Jurisdiction within the area of 34-Abhayapuri North LAC.
Abhayapuri South Territorial Road Sub Division : - Jurisdiction within the area of 35-Abhayapuri South LAC.
The Assistant Executive Engineer is the overall In-Charge of the Sub Division. The roll & function of AEE is to supervise all the works within the concerned Legislative Assembly Constituency.Jurisdiction of each Sub Divisions are divided into four sections having a Junior Engineer (JE) overall in-charge of the Section. The main function of JE is to prepare the estimate, maintenance of existing roads, bridges, culverts and supervision of ongoing works and preparation of bills. The roll of the Sectional Assistant is to help the concerned JE in day to day work.
