Right To Information Act 2005 (RTI)

Bringing Information to the Citizens :-- Right to Information Act 2005 mandates timely response to citizen requests for government information. It is an initiative taken by Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions to provide a– RTI Portal Gateway to the citizens for quick search of information on the details of first Appellate Authorities, PIOs etc. amongst others, besides access to RTI related information / disclosures published on the web by various Public Authorities under the government of India as well as the State Governments.

Objective of the Right to Information Act :-- The basic object of the Right to Information Act is to empower the citizens, promote transparency and accountability in the working of the Government, contain corruption, and make our democracy work for the people in real sense. It goes without saying that an informed citizen is better equipped to keep necessary vigil on the instruments of governance and make the government more accountable to the governed. The Act is a big step towards making the citizens informed about the activities of the Government.

RTI - How to Apply:
Any citizen of India who desired to obtain any information under the Right to Information Act - 2005 may make a request to the Public Information Officer/Assistant Public Information Officer, preferbly in the Application Format, in writing or through electronic means.
Format of Application:
There is no form of application for seeking information. The application can be made on plain paper. The application should, however, have the name and complete postal address of the applicant.
Application Fee:
The application for obtaining information under sub-section(1) of section 6 of RTI Act, 2005, must be accompanied by prescribed application fee. At present the application fee, which is subject to change from time to time, is as under -
Application fee :- Rs. 10/-(Rupees ten only)
Mode of Payment :- By cash against proper receipt or by demand draft/banker's cheque/Indian postal order.

Additional Fee:-

1. For each page(A4 or A3 paper) created or copied Rs. 2/- per page
2. For a copy in larger size paper Actual Charge or Cost price
3. For samples or models Actual Cost of price
4. For inspection of records No fee for the first hour, Rs. 5/hr thereafter.

Further, for providing the information under sub-section(5) of Section 7,the fee shall be charged at the following rates.

1. For information provided in diskette or floopy Rs. 50/-(Rupees fifty only) per diskette or floopy
2. For information provided in printer form All the price fixed for such publication or Rs. 2/- per page of photocopy for extracts from the publication.
